Let the Sleeping Frogs Lie

These hand-painted illustrations depict four key moments in the story of Paula — a solitary biologist studying a fragile wetland ecosystem. Drawn toward mysterious forces within the landscape, she gradually transforms into part of the world she once observed through the lens of a microscope. Developed through sketches, studies, and painting experiments, each image was first created on paper and later refined digitally in Procreate.

The creative brief called for translating Paula’s story into a series of 2D illustrations that balance scientific observation with psychological transformation. While researching wetland environments, I became interested in their dual nature — often perceived as desolate or inhospitable, yet uniquely rich in perception, reflection, and life. The project evolved into an exploration of how spaces considered wastelands can become places of heightened vision, where attention sharpens and the boundary between analysis and imagination begins to dissolve.
